Bionic Commando Assault

"Guns and action... and shooting"

date: December 14, 2006

FIrst off - you used a bit of my music! :D You're the first to do that... it brings a little tear of joy to my eye.
As a long-time fan of Bionic Commando, I was kind of hoping for more bionic arm-action... but given the shortness of the animation, complete with intro-drop from helicopter and so on, I'm satisfied. In my opinion, the animation is good as an iconographic little dive into the Bionic Commando universe - like you wrote in the description, it doesn't have much of a storyline, but hey, it's based on a game. I appreciate it for what it is, and that's action.

"Very residents!"

submission: -LSD-
date: October 24, 2006

Honestly, at first I thought it was a speak-track from the Residents, but I guess not?
In short, fabulously executed visual style, complete with the grainy, dirty Cunningham-ish acid feel, and a Lynch-y weird progression. I probably would have opted for a more varied soundtrack, but that's really just a matter of taste. Excellent work!

Author's Response:

Yeah, I failed with the soundtrack, lmao even though I tried. I'll work on my skills on that in the next time though. It needs some tuning.
But I'm very glad you did enjoy it nontheless, and built yourself a proper opinion about this.

New Numa

"Proper humor"

submission: New Numa
date: September 8, 2006

I'll be honest, the video itself wasn't exactly as good as the original. It just didn't have the uniqueness, the unexpectedness. Still, it did have a certain "kitsch" quality, a sort of "trying to hard but being aware of it" kind of funny.

But what *is* funny is reading all these reviews with people who are going on about how this should be banned from the internet entirely and what not... all you people, take a look around Newgrounds, or maybe around the stuff you yourselves have produced, and think about how much of it is just narcissistic, self-glorifying shite that couldn't keep a millionaire on crystal meth entertained for five seconds. The crappy bluescreen effects on this video are trying harder than most of these people ever did, and it's a fucking *joke*. Cheer up and be a little less concerned with "proper" humor please.

Duck Tales - The Moon

"Not bad, not extraordinary"

date: June 18, 2006

Nice theme, from a fun game! The cover is rather precise, but not with a lot of surprises in there. Lovely touch with the guitar, I love that, but the entire mix is a bit "flat", there's room for a lot mroe in there.. not necessarily more instruments, just "more"! More smack in those drums, a deeper or more "toney" bass, maybe make it a bit more heavy metal-ish, some kind of overall direction.
Good theme, good execution, but the production could use some work.

Author's Response:

Take note people, more of you should review like this guy. Thanks.

Super Mario Bros' Theme!!

"Yes it's a cover, but a good'un!"

date: June 18, 2006

First off - this has obviously been done a million times before. That shouldn't stop you from doing it too, it just means that there are a lot of takes on it out there, some really good, some really bad.
This is one of the good ones! The loose playing makes it all the more interesting to hear, instead of a completely straight, metronome tight rendition of one of the most well known themes in videogame history. It's only one instrument though, and for one instrument, doing a cover, to reach the really high levels, it would have to be virtuoso in some way, which this isn't quite.
Still, good effort, with a nice result to show for it! Thoroughly enjoyed!

Hammer Brothers' Theme

"Just fantastic!"

date: June 27, 2005

It's short, to the point, and fantasically great! Saxophone... I've said it before and I'll say it again - this just adds a whole new dimension to the original tune!
The handclaps and slightly un-tight, live-ish playing really adds to the minimalistic "theme" of this track. And it works great as a loop. What more is there to say? Superb!
